John Hall onstage at GBA's Annual Meeting
Hall Installed as 129th GBA Chairman
John F. Hall took the helm of the GBA as its 129th Chairman during GBA’s Annual Meeting this week. A fourth-generation banker, Hall is president and CEO of American Pride Bank in Macon. Hall shared how he’s been touched by stories of his dad helping customers in one way or another as a banker, and those stories have fueled his drive to serve. “It makes me proud of my Dad, and it certainly makes me a proud banker today. I love this industry and enjoy helping those in the communities we serve – that is what it is all about to me. It is my hope that I can use my passion for banking to help further our organization at a time when the economy is going strong and banks across Georgia are prospering,” he said. His priorities are to encourage service to the industry from more members, to oversee continued strength in GBA advocacy programs and to promote the stories how the Georgians who are bankers have a positive effect on their communities. Palmer Proctor onstage at GBA's Annual Meeting
Proctor Summarizes Successful GBA Year
GBA’s 125th year saw a lot of highlights for the industry and association, and the association is on solid footing as it heads into the future, said GBA Chairman Palmer Proctor in his State of the Association address at the GBA Annual Meeting. “So, if someone out there were to twist my arm and make me use three words to sum up GBA’s year and value to members, those words would be as follows. Effective. We get done what needs to be done for our industry and members. Active. The bankers and banks that are members truly make the most out of the investment in our collective success. And finally, enduring. …We’re on solid ground as an industry and organization, with many bright days ahead,” he said. Read his full remarks here…

Does Your Overdraft Strategy Pass the Quality Service Test?
A fully disclosed overdraft solution best conveys a consumer-focused philosophy which also expands your institution’s ability to provide exceptional service and increase non-interest income. When evaluating your strategy, here are a few important considerations to keep in mind:
  1. An in-depth training program around implementation and best practices is employed to ensure all frontline staff understand the value the service provides for account holders. It will not only improve their confidence in how to explain the program, it will have a significant impact on program use and service quality.

  2. Fully compliant messaging in all communications materials is used to keep program users informed about their account status. For your account holders, this will reinforce how they can use overdraft services responsibly. It is also an effective way to educate them about other products and services you provide for monitoring their account balance.

  3. Up-to-date analytics and tracking software are in place to help you keep track of program usage and monitor non-interest income earnings potential.
