With over 350 bankers, Associate Members and their spouses attending, full exhibit space and a sold-out block of discounted rooms at The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay, GBA’s 2018 Annual Meeting June 17-21 has proven to be a can’t-miss event. Our program will touch on the economy, bank consolidation, payment systems, cybersecurity, social media, succession planning and much more. And, there will be plenty of time for networking and making connections with peer bankers and families. With questions about the meeting, please contact GBA’s Susie McGehee at 404.420.2010.
Georgia Economy Ranked No. 9
Job growth, population growth, income growth and other business-related metrics helped put Georgia’s economy at the No. 9 spot nationally in the past year, according to WalletHub. The job-growth measurement played a particularly significant role, as did the fact that the jobs being created are well-paying corporate positions. The state also ranked highly for an increase in fast-growing firms. Washington took the top spot in the rankings, and Georgia was the only state in the Southeast that cracked the top 10.

Bank of Terrell’s Scott Beeley Prefers Dusk to Dawn, Credits Banking Programs for Continued Success

Bank of Terrell president and CEO and GBA At-Large Board Member Scott Beeley has no qualms saying that he’s at his best in the later hours of the day. “I am admittedly not at my best early in the morning, so you will not see me at the bank at 6 a.m. sipping a cup of coffee and reading the newspaper,” he recently told us. But he was quick to point out that, when teamed up with an equally hard-working spouse and terrific team at the bank in Dawson, there’s very little they cannot accomplish. Beeley truly believes the key to successful banking remains its people. He also told us that his participation with GBA over the years has helped in that regard too. “It has provided me the opportunity to meet and get to know bankers throughout the state, from large institutions to small community banks. They all bring great insights into banking and can be invaluable resources to meet the challenges and opportunities in our industry.” See more of Beeley’s profile here…
Community Bankers Committee Meets
Talent retention and recruitment, deposit competition and loan growth opportunities were among the big topics tackled this week by GBA’s committee comprised of top community bank executives at their meeting. The committee is responsible for assessing GBA’s education programs, provides input to our advocacy efforts and recommends products and services that are helpful to banks. The committee got a full overview of each of those areas, and began planning the annual GBA President and CEO Conference. Chris Edwards, United Bank, Zebulon, chairs the 2018-2019 committee, and Rhodes McLanahan, First American Bank & Trust, Athens, is vice chair. The Conference is Sept. 30 - Oct.2 at the Ritz Carlton, Lake Oconee. The conference agenda is coming soon. Brochures will be available in late July but you can register here now.

Kids Say the Funniest Things … about Banking
If you ask a young kid what a teller is, it’s a good bet you’ll get a funny answer. GBA Associate Member Safe Systems this week shared an irresistibly cute video of kids taking about banking as a way to celebrate its 25th anniversary and to recognize the importance of its community bank clients. Take a look at the background on the project and the video here. Take Advantage of New Opportunities in Reciprocal Deposits with Promontory

Thanks to the newly signed regulatory relief bill (S.2155), most reciprocal deposits are no longer classified as brokered deposits for well-rated banks. This comes as banks face intense and increasing competition for deposits. Please join GBA partner and Associate Member Promontory Interfinancial Network for one of their upcoming, free webinars that will outline key provisions of the new law related to the brokered deposits and the impact ICS®, or Insured Cash Sweep®, and CDARS® can have on banks’ balance sheets. The webinars will also cover how banks can use ICS and CDARS to capitalize on the opportunities at hand. Presenters will discuss cost-effective ways to use the services to attract high-value relationships and to lock-in more low-cost funding. This webinar is important for decision-makers at banks of all sizes, especially for community banks that utilize collateralized deposits and/or listing services. Choose any date and time that works for you. Click here to register today. Please contact Promontory’s Danny Capitel, 770.630.6796, with questions.
