WSB Investigates Teller Card Terminal Security

We were proud this week to speak up on behalf of the industry and member banks featured in a TV news story questioning the security of in-branch card terminals used by some banks. A concerned customer of one bank contacted WSB TV, which led to the station doing hidden-camera visits to banks to test whether the terminals may be vulnerable to tampering or placement of skimming devices. One of the member banks targeted alerted us to the story and asked if we would be a resource to speak to the TV station on behalf of the industry about the overall safety and security measures taken to protect transactions, which we were glad to do. In collaboration with the members featured, the GBA Security Committee and some Associate Members, we were able to develop a strong, definitive statement to balance the story in on-camera comments. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said he believes the House will pass the bill in May, and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) also expressed similar thoughts on a timeline, saying at an event in Milwaukee that, "We're a few weeks away."

You would not have known Janet took any time away after she was named Graduate of Distinction last year for the 2017 session of the Georgia Banking School in Athens. She shared with us the things she liked about the program--enough for her to return as a director on the school’s board.
