GBA in the News
Advocating for Full Perspective in Metro Coverage

A story in last week’s Atlanta Business Chronicle outlined the effects of bank mergers and acquisitions in the Buckhead submarket of metro-Atlanta. We were happy to serve as a resource to the reporter doing the story, as it gave us an opportunity to make sure the story included perspectives representing the full variety of banks serving the area. Read about the information provided and bankers quoted in the story here.

Fed to Start Real-Time Settlement Network

The Federal Reserve this week announced it will develop a real-time settlement service to be called FedNow. The network is expected to roll out in 2023-2024, and will provide a competing system to the RTP Network already in operation, which was developed and owned by a group of banks. The Fed will make the network available to all federally insured institutions. GBA Member Profile
Family Traditions in Bluegrass and Banking with Eddie Hoyle

With relatives in banking and at the suggestion of his North Georgia College professors, a young Eddie Hoyle decided to forgo law school for the fulfillment of helping people meet their financial dreams through a career in banking. "Had I chosen a different path, I don't think I would have received any greater satisfaction than banking has provided me," said Hoyle, now Chief Banking Officer and Executive Vice President at Colony Bank, Fitzgerald. In the latest GBA Member Profile, the chair of the 2019-2020 GBA Credit Committee reflects on his very first job as a bank collections officer, growing up in a musical family and his lifelong love of the banjo, how networking at industry events has shaped his career and more.
And, here’s a fun clip of Hoyle, aka. Banjovi, and his banjo prowess he provided for the GBA 125th Anniversary video project we did in 2017.

Make Plans Now to Use GBA’s Holiday Closing Decals in 2020

It’s pretty hard to believe the time to be thinking about things we’ll need in 2020 is here, but it is almost upon us! With that in mind, promotion of GBA’s Holiday Closing Decals has begun. We’ll be reaching out to the banks on our standing order list over the next few weeks to confirm each order. If your bank wants to be added to the standing list to receive decals every year, please let us know. For more than 20 years, the GBA has been the preferred source for banks to purchase top-quality, thoughtfully designed window and door decals that provide a professional appearance and communicate the 10 holiday closings recognized by the Federal Reserve Bank in accordance with FDIC rules. The decals can brighten up your bank's front door or teller window with a variety of holiday-themed scenes. Read more about GBA Holiday Closing Decals features here. Prices are: $35 per set for 1-5 sets; $32 per set for 6-10 sets, $30 per set for more than 10 sets. Please contact Bo Brannen, 404.420.2014 with any questions or to place an order.

All about the Bills...
Happy National Dollar Day and Which Bill is Most Circulated

Who knew that Aug. 6 is National Dollar day? Member bank Queensborough National Bank & Trust tweeted out some fun facts about it this week. The day commemorates the day Congress established the U.S. monetary system in 1786. The first dollar bill was printed in 1862. The person featured on the first dollar bill was not George Washington, it was Salmon P. Chase, the sixth Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court (1864-1873) as well as Secretary of Treasury (1861-1864) at the time the bill was first issued. In other money trivia, a report from the International Monetary Fund says that beginning in 2017, the $100 bill became more widely circulated than the $1 bill for the first time. Read more here.
