Fall Tri-Conferences a Home Run for Industry Intel

Member CEOs, Bank Counsel and Bank Accountant section members packed their respective conferences this week and were treated to a program that was informative, insightful and captivating. IRS Proposes Helpful Libor Transition Rule

Among the discussions at the Bank Counsel Conference this week was talk about how to handle modifying contracts with references to Libor. The IRS this week issued a proposed rule that can be helpful in that regard related to taxes. The rule would generally allow market participants to make those contract modifications without tax consequences. Comments on the proposal will be due 45 days after publication in the Federal Register. Read the proposal here .

Coach Vince Dooley Recognized at Community Event

Former University of Georgia Coach and Athletic Director Vince Dooley was recently honored when the playing field at Sanford Stadium was named for him. Not everyone was able to get to Athens for the ceremonies, so Dan Oliver and the team at Vinings Bank , Smyrna, hosted a community event for a big crowd of UGA fans to celebrate with Coach Dooley. FHLB Atlanta Board Election Reminder

Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta (Bank) is conducting an election to fill one member directorship and two independent directorships on its board of directors. Eligible institutions in South Carolina will vote to fill the member directorship, and eligible institutions across the Bank’s footprint, including South Carolina, will vote to fill the two independent directorships. All elected directors will serve four-year terms that begin on Jan. 1, 2020. Incumbents William C. Handorf and John B. Rucker have been nominated for the two independent directorships. Your institution’s vote is important and the Bank encourages you to participate in the election. An independent director nominee must receive at least 20 percent of the votes eligible to be cast to be elected. The deadline for the Bank to receive completed ballots is 5 p.m. EDT, Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019. Nat'l Cybersecurity Awareness Month
Banks Positioned to Lead on Cybersecurity Education

We continue to hear that IT and cybersecurity are getting plenty of attention from examiners, and consumers are increasingly concerned about protecting their digital information. The good news is that banks are in prime position to be leaders. Three of four consumers in a recent survey by GBA Associate Member CSI said they would be likely to participate in a cybersecurity awareness or education program from their financial institution if they offered it. How to Create a User Manual for Yourself and Team Members

We love to get and share practical tools for members to use in their organizations. Jim Owens of new GBA Associate Member Performance Strategies Group , sent along a tool that provides a quick exercise you and your co-workers can use to shore up communication. It’s a technique in which two or more people jot down notes to complete a series of sentences to identify ways to better coach and be coached, allowing team members to create a common baseline for behavioral and cultural dialogue. 2019 BankPAC Campaign Update

It’s official - the 2019 BankPAC Campaign has met its goals for the StatePAC and the FedPAC! But, as BankPAC Board Chairman Luke Flatt , chairman, president & CEO of AB&T , Albany, said to attendees this week at the GBA President/CEO Conference, our goals are too low. "There is opportunity for substantially better results if we increase the participation among our banks. We all need to participate to ensure GBA has the resources to help elect pro-banking candidates to Congress and the Georgia Legislature," said Flatt.
