Coronavirus Resources and Actions for Members

It’s been anything but a usual week for all of us, but working remotely hasn’t kept us from continuing to provide members with key resources and advocacy amid the unprecedented public-health emergency we’re going through. Here’s a summary of what we’ve been up to and access to resources as well as key GBA staff to reach out to if you need us.

Hurricane Disaster Aid Block Grant Application Period Open

Here’s a reminder to bankers with ag portfolios that the Georgia Department of Agriculture Wednesday began taking online applications from producers who experienced losses and expenses related to Hurricane Michael not covered by other disaster or insurance programs. The website for applications is www.farmrecovery.com. Applications must be completed and submitted by the end of the day April 8. Only online applications will be accepted. This block grant program is designed to compensate producers for losses and expenses in seven categories of assistance: beef, dairy, fruit and vegetable, pecan, poultry, timber, and uninsured infrastructure. Full details are available on the website.

FDIC COVID-19 FAQs for Banks and Customers

FDIC Wednesday distributed a national press release emphasizing the strength of the FDIC insurance fund, reminding depositors than no one has ever lost a penny of FDIC-insured deposits. The agency also issued FAQs helpful to customers and to banks working with customers to provide financial relief. Access those resources here. More FDIC actions are available on its COVID-19 Resource page, which is also accessible on the GBA Emergency Response and Preparedness page.

Paid Leave Provisions in New Law Explained by Adams and Reese

GBA Associate Member Adams and Reese LLP shared with us their detailed analysis of the provisions in a bill signed into law by President Trump this week requiring small businesses to provide paid leave due to coronavirus. In summary, the provisions require that employees who are sick with or need to care for someone with COVID-19 are paid for up to 10 days; that employees whose children's schools are closed (and cannot work remotely) are granted leave for up to 12 weeks, and finally, if the government orders a “lockdown," employees who cannot work remotely will be entitled to pay for up to 10 days. Read their extended Q&A and analysis here.
