Elizabeth Chandler Models Perseverance

GBA’s Senior Vice President of Government Relations Elizabeth Chandler is geared up for another important Georgia General Assembly session and is fresh off a two-year term chairing the Georgia Chamber’s Government Affairs Council. Juggling the variety of state, national and regulatory advocacy needs for GBA requires perseverance for sure, and that’s something Chandler said she learned early in her career. “I try to remember the age-old qualities of respect for others and perseverance. Another notion that I try to remember is that most challenges are attainable if you believe in yourself,” she says in this week’s GBA member profile. Read more about Chandler here…

Ag Commissioner Gary Black is Georgian of the Year

Congratulations to Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black for the well-deserved honor of being named Georgian of the Year by Georgia Trend magazine. Agriculture contributes $74 billion a year to the state’s economy, and the agency Black heads is responsible for a wide range of ag-related regulation and policy including food safety, animal health, regulating grocery stores and food processing plants, protecting gasoline quality and licensing pest control companies. Among Black’s many accomplishments, the magazine highlights his efforts to promote the industry through the revamped Georgia Grown program that has helped unite producers, processors, retailers and consumers of Georgia-made agriculture products. “Commissioner Black has been a strong voice for everything related to Georgia agriculture for years. We’ve had the privilege of working closely with him both before and after he was elected Commissioner, and he has earned this recognition,” said Joe Brannen, GBA president and CEO. This is part of the MyGBA feature we’ve been telling you about to help members have a full picture of their GBA involvement. In early 2016 we set up usernames and temporary passwords for members who have been involved with GBA for some time and sent that information to them by email. If you haven’t logged in to MyGBA to update your user profile and adjusted your username and password, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible. You can do a search for your user account and some basic credentials to get you started on our User Account Search page. If you’re new to GBA, we’ll need to set up a member record for you. We can do that, as well as answer any other questions, with a request to webmaster@gabankers.com...
