Efficiency ratios are like golf scores - the lower the better.

to maximize income, average efficiency ratios for banks are still
between 70 and 80.
While these numbers would be good for an amateur golfer, they aren't

Officers Elected, New Board Members Installed
Brinson Installed as
GBA's 125th Chairman
Remer Y. Brinson III,
president and CEO, First Bank of Georgia, Augusta, was installed as
the 125th Chairman of the Georgia Bankers Association at the
association's Annual Meeting in White Sulphur Springs, WV, this week.
In banking in the Augusta area since 1982, Brinson also serves as
President and CEO and on the board of the bank’s holding company,
Georgia-Carolina Bancshares. Brinson has a long history of service
to the industry having previously served as chairman of both GBA's
Community Bankers Committee and Public Affairs Committee. Other officers and
new board members were also installed during the annual business
Jackson McConnell Jr., president and CEO, Pinnacle Bank,
Elberton, was elected Chairman-Elect for 2014-2015; and Richard E. Drews

A huge crowd
of GBA members met this week in White Sulphur Springs, WV, for the 2014
GBA Annual Meeting. "We had a powerful educational program,
productive networking time and shared a lot of laughs at an
incredible venue. This was another fantastic GBA Annual Meeting,"
said Stan Kryder, president and CEO, Midtown Bank & Trust
Company, who wrapped up his term as GBA Chairman during the meeting.
"We appreciate that so many members and their families took the time
to be with us to share their insight and perspective about what's
happening in Georgia's improving banking industry."

Kryder Points to Renewed Banker
Confidence, Strong Year for GBA
Bankers Association had another successful, productive year of
serving its members, said GBA Chairman Stan Kryder during his
state of the association address this week at the GBA Annual
Meeting. That's primarily due to the strong support from its
membership and an improved vibe all around.
"There is simply a lot more positive
energy in our business these days. One of the neat things about
being Chairman of the Georgia Bankers Association this year was that
I got to spend a lot of time with you. As bankers, we are more
confident. There's a renewed sense of pride I have in my work and
industry, and I sense that's become common among you, as well."

GBA Insurance Trust Elected
The Georgia Bankers
Association Insurance Trust (GBAIT) held its annual meeting June 16
in White Sulphur Springs, WV. GBAIT Chairman Ed Hortman,
president and CEO, Ameris Bank, Moultrie, gave an overview of
the Insurance Trust's activities, and attendees elected the
following directors to serve a three-year term, ending in 2017:

South Georgia Banking Company, Tifton

50-Year Bankers Honored
It is a tradition at
each year's GBA Annual Meeting to honor Georgia bankers who have
dedicated 50 years of their careers to the banking industry. This
year, we salute the following four bankers for their long and

Scott, Barrow and Westmoreland Voice Support for
Community Banker on Fed Board
Reps. David Scott, John Barrow and Lynn
Westmoreland are among 86 members of the U.S. House who signed a
bipartisan letter to President Obama urging him to appoint someone
with community banking experience to the Federal Reserve Board.
There are two vacancies on the seven-member board. The letter notes
the high percentage of small business credit provided by community
banks and the importance of community banks in rural areas where
larger banks often do not have a presence.

Georgia Home to almost a Million Small
950,532 small businesses in Georgia, according to a report this week
from the Small Business Administration's Office of Advocacy. Those
businesses employ about 1.5 million people. The most common
industries for the small businesses in Georgia are accommodation and
food services, healthcare and social assistance, and retail trade.

Call Reporting Seminar -
GBA will host its
seminar June 24, at Idle Hour Country Club, Macon. This one-day
seminar presented by Mauldin & Jenkins, LLC, will offer practical
techniques to improve your overall reporting process. Participants
will receive a detailed line-by-line review in the completion of
each schedule of a Call Report. Appropriate items to be reported and
relationships between schedules will be discussed as part of this
review. In addition, changes to the Call Report effective in 2014
will be discussed, along with the 2015 changes to Schedule RC-R.
Most commonly-used schedules within the Call Report will be
addressed, with an emphasis placed on Schedules RC-C and RC-R.
