The State of Coin: A U.S. Coin Task Force Report Now Available

A new paper is now available from the U.S. Coin Task Force on the state of the coin supply chain in the U.S. and the causes and effects of the coin circulation disruption that occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. The paper identifies which factors contributed to the coin circulation disruption, including a significant drop in coin deposits since the pandemic began and lower rates of new coin production at the U.S. Mint in the early days of the pandemic. The Federal Reserve has not had an adequate supply of coin to meet financial institution demand and has begun rationing coin allocations as a result. The Federal Reserve and the U.S. Mint will use the paper as they work with a third-party consultant to review the coin supply chain and develop recommendations to improve it. In the meantime, the task force continues to encourage consumers to keep coins circulating by spending, depositing, exchanging or donating them, financial institutions to deposit excess coin inventory and retailers to accept and recirculate coins at their tills. Read the paper here.

The Joy of Coaching Professionals to Achieve Their Dreams with Terry Kennedy

Exchange Bank Senior Vice President, Human Resources/Business Development Terry Kennedy didn’t set out to have a career in banking, but, in her own words, she’s “so glad the stars aligned as they did.” Kennedy worked closely with Brad Serff, who was then president of Exchange Bank, at the United Way of Central Georgia and was surprised when he asked her to come in for a meeting about a marketing role that was firmly in her wheelhouse. After about 10 years leading business development, an opportunity came up to oversee the bank’s human resources function. “The board and senior management team had confidence in me and believed that I was the right person to assume this role. HR is very challenging but also extremely rewarding,” she said. “I feel a tremendous amount of satisfaction when I am able to guide employees to achieve their career goals.” The vice chair of the 2021-2022 GBA HR Committee shares about the skill that has gotten her farthest in life and work, what goes into coaching an employee for success and much more in the latest GBA Member Profile.

The King & Prince

Related: GBA’s HR Professionals Institute is coming up March 23-25 at the King & Prince, St. Simons. Planned by the GBA HR Committee, led by Tonya Brooks, Citizens Bank of the South, this conference is the top learning experience for Georgia bank human resources professionals. Peer networking and idea-sharing flourish during the institute. HR directors and staff at all levels should attend. Get all the details and register here.

Volunteer or Nominate a Fellow Banker to Serve on a GBA Committee or Board

If you are one of 300+ GBA members who serve on one of our 25 committees or boards, you know the value and benefit of being involved, in-the-know and connected. Not to mention serving your professional association by working together to promote the general welfare and usefulness of banking in Georgia. Thinking about getting more involved, but not sure how? Right now, GBA is looking for bankers and associate members to share their time and talent on one of our committees/boards (or to nominate a fellow banker or member). The time commitment for most committees and boards is very manageable and our members tell us they get so much more out of the experience than they are required to give. Take a look at all the opportunities by clicking here. You can also access the volunteer/nomination form through that link. Response deadline is April 4. Have questions? Contact GBA’s David Oliver. Also, we’ll be glad to connect you to a current committee/Board member who can answer your questions.
